Guide

Medicare Part B , Medical coverage

Part B covers the care you receive outside a hospital: doctor visits, outpatient services, preventive care, and durable medical equipment.

Doctor visits

Office visits, specialists, and most outpatient treatments.

Preventive care

Annual wellness visit, screenings, and many vaccines at no extra cost.

Outpatient services

Lab work, imaging, mental health, and outpatient surgery.

Medical equipment

Wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen, and other durable equipment.

What it costs

Part B has a monthly premium set by CMS each year, plus an annual deductible and 20% coinsurance for most services. Higher-income beneficiaries pay a larger premium.

When to enroll

Enroll during your seven-month Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday. If you delay without other qualifying coverage, a lifelong late-enrollment penalty may apply.
